Three-year-old injured in alleged sexual assault

A toddler has been left in a critical condition after she was allegedly sexually assaulted in her own home.

The three-year-old was left in the company of a 25-year-old man on Thursday night when the attack reportedly happened.

It was the young girl’s grandfather who found her when he returned to the South Brisbane District home, and rushed her to hospital, Nine News reports.

Hospital staff called the police who promptly attended the scene and commenced an investigation.

The 25-year-old man has since been charged with nine offences including torture, grievous bodily harm, sexual assault, leaving a child under 12 unattended, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, breach of a domestic violence order and drug offences. 

The girl is still in a Brisbane hospital in a serious but stable condition.
