Quan portrays successful realtor Marvin Gable, whose dark past comes back to haunt him while being hunted by his crime-lord brother, Knuckles (Daniel Wu).

The actor discussed his excitement over his lead actor debut in ‘the perfect film’ this week with PEOPLE.

‘I always fantasized about being the number one on the call sheet or putting myself in the shoes of the leading man,’ Quan said.

‘I never thought that I would one day be the lead actor in a major studio picture. So it is an incredible feeling.’

X users are just as excited as Quan, many of whom noticed the link between Love Hurts and the John Wick series almost immediately.

That series centers around the life of legendary hitman John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves.

Much of the four John Wick films feature action sequences and fight choreography that fans have called ‘amazing stunt work.’

One of the fight coordinators from the first three John Wick films was Jonathan Eusebio, who will be making his directorial debut in Love Hurts.

Several X users pointed out the connection, and revealed it’s one of the reasons why they’re interested in seeing Quan’s new film.

‘Why do I have a feeling I’m gonna end up REALLY liking this? Ke Huy Quan leading an action film on his own?,’ an X user tweeted.

’87North being involved? John Wick level action with a fight coordinator on that movie directing this? SIGN ME THE F*** UP!!!.’

X and Reddit users also said Quan’s character reminded them of Jackie Chan, citing a scene in the trailer where the actor is seen removing his glasses.

Quan fans were also enthusiastic about some of the film’s other stars: Ariana DeBose, Marshawn Lynch, and Sean Astin.

One Reddit user pointed out that Quan and Astin will have a ‘mini Goonies reunion.’

Besides Chan and Astin, commenters were excited about Quan’s collaborations with Wu and Lynch.

‘I love that Daniel Wu and Ke are getting work. Love both of their work and they’re both excellent at fight choreography, so this is gonna be awesome,’ a Reddit user wrote yesterday.

Another Reddit user wrote: ‘Looks like Marshawn might give Quan a run for his money as a standout in this.’

Sadly, not all post commenters were excited about the trailer, and at least five commenters claimed the trailer was the ‘entire movie.’

‘It’s giving Make A Wick project. Hope it’s good, however, I think I just saw the movie,’ a film fan wrote.
