A thug who smirked for his police mugshot after being arrested for ripping out his girlfriend’s blonde hair extensions and urinating on her bed has been jailed.

Simon McEvoy, 36, held a steak knife to Caroline Tranter’s throat and threatened to burn down her house in a fit of rage jealous rage.

The 34-year-old victim was left with bald patches after McEvoy yanked out her £240 hair extensions when she didn’t return his phone calls.

McEvoy, of Erdington, Birmingham, has now admitted to threats to kill, assault occasioning bodily harm, affray and two common assaults and was jailed for two years and eight months at Worcester Crown Court on Monday.

The court heard McEvoy used a steak knife and a Stanley knife to terrify the mum-of-four in her home in Warndon, Worcester, on November 12 last year.

During the prolonged assault, Miss Tranter had her underwear yanked off and was forced to buy a new mattress, duvet and sheets after McEvoy urinated on her bed.

McEvoy also told Miss Tranter she’d ‘messed with the wrong person’ as he pulled at her hair.

As well as the judge term, the imposed a 15-year restraining order, banning McEvoy from contacting Miss Tranter.

Judge Nicolas Cartwright told him: ‘She was a particularly vulnerable victim given she was in her own home at the time and you were being so controlling towards her. There were five threats to kill in all.’

The court heard McEvoy and Miss Tranter started dating in July last year after meeting through a dating website.

Prosecutor Gareth Walters said: ‘At first things went well but then the defendant became controlling.’

Describing the November attack, Mr Walters added: ‘The defendant came back to his car and returned with a Stanley knife and started flicking it towards her face.

‘He then told her, ‘I’m going to kill you. I will hunt you down and kill you. I will burn your house down’.’

In a victim impact statement that she read to the court, Miss Tranter said: ‘He pulled so much of my hair out I had a bald patch and it went really thin.

‘He pulled out my extensions and that was very painful. It was very sore at the time and they were unusable afterwards.

‘It felt like I had whiplash in my neck and shoulders where he yanked me around by my hair.’

McEvoy’s lawyer said the attack took place on a ‘night of madness’.

She said his wife had died of cystic fibrosis, leaving him to bring up his daughter alone.

Following the sentencing, Miss Tranter, a carer, said: ‘I’m just glad he went down.

‘I wanted to see him go to prison. In my mind it should have been longer. I was glad I could go to court to look him in the eye.

‘He seemed shocked to see me but I wanted to let him see that I wasn’t afraid of him anymore.’
