A tiger snake has been captured after giving Melburnians a fright in one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.
The very venomous snake was found on the corner of Collins and Spencer Streets near Southern Cross Station at about 12.30pm on Thursday, according to The Herald Sun.
Police officers cordoned off the street and closed one of the southbound lanes on Spencer St while waiting for Barry the snake catcher to arrive.
Dozens of people gathered to watch Barry bag the venomous reptile at about 1.30pm.
The snake was shown off to the crowd before one of Spencer Street’s southbound lanes was reopened to traffic.
