Already facing a child support lawsuit from a Florida woman claiming to be his former mistress, Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera now appears to have spent lavishly on the plaintiff, Belkis Rodriguez, and their two children, according to recently revealed court documents.
Not only did Cabrera help buy her a $1 million mansion, but the Venezuelan slugger also took her, their five-year-old son and two-year-old daughter on a $9,000 European vacation as well as a $5,000 Disney Cruise, according to the documents obtained by The Detroit Free Press. And that’s on top of the $15,000 a month in child support he was paying and the $3,000 a month he was spent in travel fees so that the two children could visit him.
Rodriguez believes that Cabrera – who makes over $30 million a season – can afford to pay her $100k a month in child support under Florida’s guidelines.

In October, Rodriguez filed suit against Cabrera seeking for an increase to the $5,000 a month in child support he currently pays. Furthermore, Rodriguez claims that Cabrera only cut his child support payments by $10k to persuade his wife to end divorce proceedings.
Cabrera’s wife Rosangel Cabrera filed for divorce at the end of the season, but has since withdrawn the petition, according to The Detroit News. The couple has three children together.
‘It is important to make clear to the court that [Cabrera] … only ceased paying this amount not because he believed it was inappropriate for the support of his children… but instead in order to appease his wife in an attempt to halt the divorce proceedings,’ Terry Young, Rodriguez’s lawyer, wrote in a filing.
‘These minor children should not be penalized because their father’s wife is angry that he chose to have a relationship with their mother and otherwise support them over the years, as he rightfully should have done,’ Young continued.
