If you thought supermodel and reality star Kendall Jenner had recently joined TikTok, it seems that was not exactly the case.

The social media platform accidentally verified a fake Kendall Jenner account on Monday, according to Business Insider.

The account pretending to be Jenner posted the first TikTok video on Monday, but the account was deleted 24 hours later, after TikTok accidentally verified the bogus account.

The fake account debuted on the TikTok platform Monday, with the @kendalljenner handle that was verified by the platform.

With the verified check mark, the fake Jenner account amassed roughly 500,000 followers just two hours after the first video.

There were just two videos posted in the one day the TikTok account was active, the first where Jenner, 24, was standing in front of a bathroom mirror set to King Staccz’s Pretty Face, originally posted in October 2019.

The second video showed Jenner, ‘dancing behind a curtain of pink streamers,’ set to Safe Zone by Lonr.

Business Insider revealed that neither of the videos were new, with both appearing on the verified Jenner’s Instagram Story on two separate instances in 2019, the first in June 2019 and the second originally posted in June 2019.

The second video appeared to have been taken at a 70s-themed birthday party for Jenner’s friend Tiffany Sorya.

TikTok confirmed Business Insider’s report, adding the account was removed following an, ‘internal review’ after the account’s legitimacy was questioned.

‘Within hours of verifying an account claiming to be Kendall Jenner, an internal review raised questions about the account’s authenticity, and TikTok immediately removed it as a precaution,’ TikTok said in a statement to Business Insider.

While it is not ultimately clear how this fake user was awarded a coveted blue checkmark, the social media platform’s policy states a checkmark is issued when they have learned that, ‘the account belongs to the user it represents.’
