TikTok is DOWN: Video app crashes for thousands of frustrated users around the world

It’s the go-to video app for youngsters around the world, but it appears that TikTok has crashed this morning. 

According to DownDetector, the issues started at around 10:40 BST and are affecting users globally. 

MailOnline tried to open the TikTok app and found that it crashed before the feed had even loaded. 

TikTok is yet to comment on the outage.  

So far, more than 8,363 reports have been logged on UK DownDetector, 21,969 on the US site, and 1,342 on the Australian version of the site

While the reason for the outage remains unclear, of those who reported problems in the UK, 90 per cent said they were having problems with the app, 10 per cent with the server, and one per cent with comments.

One user write: ‘The way I RAN to Twitter to see if TikTok was down for everyone else too.’

Another added: ‘ i’ve never felt like i was an addict until i immediately opened twitter the second tiktok wasn’t working for me.’ 

And one joked: ‘Me realising my life evolves around tiktok now it’s down.’

The outage will come as bad news to many youngsters, with recent research revealing that Britons aged 14 to 24 spend an average of 57 minutes a day watching TikTok – more than they spend watching traditional TV. 

Ofcom found the age group now spend less than an hour (53 minutes) a day watching traditional TV channels, down two-thirds in ten years.

By contrast, the over-65s are still tuning in to scheduled TV for five hours and 50 minutes on average per day – slightly up on a decade earlier.
