TikTok video reveals how sliced ham is really made… and the result is turning stomachs

  • TikTokers are vowing never to eat ham again after finding out how it is made
  • A shocking clip showing how the product is made has left viewers horrified

A shocking video has surfaced showing shoppers how sliced ham is actually made, and many are vowing never to eat it again.

The TikTok, which claims to be filmed inside a food factory, shows pink sludge being seamlessly transformed into the everyday food item.

Horrified viewers, who initially thought the product was pink ice cream, have been left questioning how their food is really made.

A woman called Tantie dug up the clip and shared it to her TikTok account, @thatafricanchick2, captioning the post: ‘I don’t want to believe this’.

The everyday food item begins its journey as pink goo, before being flattened and heated to achieve the final result

The video begins with a large pot of miscellaneous pink goo, which a factory worker scrapes into a yellow tub.

The contents are then dished out into individual loaf-shaped tins by a masked man wearing a safety apron, bright white boots and a nozzle machine.

The tins are then flung onto a work surface to air inside the mixture and flatten them before being placed in an oven.

After some time the mixture, which has turned a golden brown colour and even more-so resembles a loaf of bread, is temperature checked and taken out.

The contents are then stacked onto a slicing machine, which reveals the pale pink insides of the product.

Accompanying the clip, Tantie wrote: ‘What in the world, watch till the end this can’t be real,’ alongside three astonished-looking emojis.

The video has drawn in 8.6 million views from curious TikTokers who couldn’t help but watch the horror.

Over 40,000 users flooded the comment section, many admitting they had no idea what the mixture was at first.

One asked: ‘What in the Ghost Busters pink slime surprise is in that.’

Others were left pondering what had been added to the mixture in the factory, one user wrote: ‘What in the hell type of chemicals are they using to be suited up like that!’

‘They are wrapped up like it is highly infectious or toxic’ another agreed.

One exasperated TikToker wrote: ‘I give up. I’m just going to be hungry.’

It’s not the first time people have been shocked by the contents of a household staple. Earlier this year Aussie’s found out what vegemite is made from.

An episode of ABC’s Greatest Australian Stuff revealed that the polarising condiment is made from ‘brewer’s waste’ – a by-product of beer.

In the episode, a brown liquid is poured into a factory tub, while the narrator adds: ‘This is the brown sludge at the bottom of your VB factory.’

After a clip of the episode was shared to Facebook, hundreds of Vegamite-loving Aussies couldn’t believe they didn’t know the process.

‘Now I know why I like it so much,’ one commented, another said: ‘YUM! Especially now I know I’m eating beer.’
