Hundreds have gathered to have their final goodbyes to a young mum who took her own life.

Mum-of-four Timika Allen, 26, from Cairns in far north Queensland died in hospital on Tuesday surrounded by family and friends, two days after she sustained self-inflicted injury.

Her death sparked an outpouring of tributes for a beautiful soul who brought much love and light into the lives of everyone who knew her.

Around 250 gathered at her hospital bedside on Tuesday to farewell Ms Allen after her life support was turned off.

‘We kept her alive long enough so everyone could see her,’ her maternal grandmother Shirley Tognol told the Cairns Post.

‘She was loved, everyone loved Timeka.’

It’s understood Ms Allen had been locked in a dispute with a state government department at the time of her death, which has since sparked anger in the local Indigenous community, the publication reported.

A family member has launched an online fundraiser to raise funds for Ms Allen’s funeral, burial and memorial arrangements so she can be laid to rest with the dignity and respect she deserves.

Remaining funds will be used to set up trust funds for her children.

‘She will be deeply missed by all who knew her,’ the page states.

‘The family want to give Timika the dignified and heartfelt send-off she deserves.

‘I would love to help with raising funds to easy the financial burden of funeral expenses for the family during this already challenging time.

‘Any contribution, no matter how small, will help alleviate the financial strain and allow the family to focus on grieving and remembering her fondly.’

The fundraiser has raised almost $2,900.
