It’s been 10 years but for radio host Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald, the pain of losing his first child has never gone away.
Fitzy, from Nova 969’s Fitzy & Wippa show, has opened up about grief he and wife Belinda experienced when they lost their unborn daughter, Cayley-Jay, in 2008.
Speaking to News Ltd on Thursday, Fitzy, 41, said: ‘We lost a child, which was pretty full-on. Unfortunately she [Belinda] had to deliver her.’

Fitzy, who is father to sons Hewy, 8, and Lenny, 4, with Belinda, also spoke of the excruciating pain of confronting their child’s death after birth.
Speaking to News Ltd, he said: ‘They [doctors] think the healing process is that you should see the baby. We had closure… to say hello and say goodbye to Cayley-Jay.
‘It was hard… but I think it definitely helped with us getting over that moment.’

Fitzy said that he and Belinda decided to try for another baby straight away.
The Sydney-based star has previously revealed how the loss of his daughter has made him appreciate the family he has.
In 2012, he told the Herald Sun that while he didn’t want to be a parent who flooded social media with news about their kids, it was hard not to be a proud dad.

Fitzy has often spoken of his love for wife Belinda – on the couple’s sixth wedding anniversary, in 2014, he said: ‘Two beautiful boys and the rest is history, I love you honey, happy anniversary.’
