Karl Stefanovic has a bizarre moment on the Today show as he dreams of attending the AFL Grand Final

Karl Stefanovic went stir crazy on the Today show on Thursday while lamenting the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on this year’s footy season.

Assisted by on-screen graphics, the 47-year-old ‘dreamt’ of watching the AFL and NRL grand finals with his mates – something that won’t happen because of restrictions and border closures.

The lighthearted segment began with Karl sharing his ‘idea of heaven’ with viewers while falling asleep on the job.

Karl dozed on the Today show couch dreaming of both grand finals as he murmured in his sleep: ‘Front row seats for the footy grand final… your mates by your side… the cheer of the crowd as your teams runs out.’

His ‘dream’ also included a meat pie with tomato sauce being squeezed on top.

‘In your hand, a beautiful, delicious, chunky, mincey meat pie mmmm,’ the larrikin TV host continued.

His co-host Allison Langdon then woke him up and normal programming resumed.

‘Karl, Karl, wake up,’ she said, shaking him. ‘It was all a dream! Wake up. It was a dream, my friend.’

Karl snapped upright as Allison remarked that he was getting ‘sweaty’.

‘There was a lot happening in that dream,’ Karl said.

Unfortunately, Karl and many other AFL fans won’t be able to attend the Grand Final due to lockdowns and border restrictions in NSW and Victoria.

This year’s AFL Grand Final is being held for the first time in history at Optus Stadium in Perth, where the Melbourne Demons will take on the Western Bulldogs.

The West Australian government has a hard border with both NSW and Victoria due to their ongoing Covid outbreaks.
