Today show: Mystery surrounds Allison Langdon’s hydrofoiling accident

Allison Langdon is recovering in hospital after badly injuring her knee injury in a hydrofoiling accident while filming a segment for the Today show last Thursday.

And while Langdon, 41, and Channel Nine have said she’s on the mend, mystery still surrounds the TV host’s accident and the extent of her injuries.

Two days ago, the reporter revealed in a breezy newsletter that she had a ‘nice amount of metal’ in her knee after undergoing surgery, and would be off work for at least another five weeks.

What’s going on? Mystery continues to surround Allison Langdon’s hydrofoiling accident as she is forced to take extended leave from the Today show and Channel Nine plays coy

Since then, there has been no official word on her recovery, and Nine has declined to offer an on-the-record statement on the matter.

The lack of updates could simply mean Langdon wishes to recuperate in private, but some viewers may well be wondering if her injuries are worse than they’ve been led to believe.

On Wednesday, the breakfast TV anchor addressed viewers via the Today show’s official email newsletter.

‘I have a nice amount of metal in my knee now and have to wait a further five weeks before I can put any weight on my right leg,’ she wrote.

‘Patience has never been a strength of mine so let’s see how we go.’

Langdon’s update was vague about the details, and failed to explain what surgery she’d had or what exactly had happened to her during the hydrofoiling accident.

In the same newsletter, the veteran journalist also thanked fans for their kind words.

‘I’ve been overwhelmed by all the lovely messages and just want to say thank you for all the love,’ Langdon wrote.

‘I can’t believe what looked like a pretty innocent fall has resulted in such drastic injuries.’

Langdon is believed to have undergone some kind of knee surgery on Monday, after injuring herself while pre-recording a segment for Today last Thursday.

She hurt her right knee after landing badly on a swimming platform at Burleigh Beach, on the Gold Coast.

She has been temporarily replaced on the Today show by Leila McKinnon, who is serving as co-host alongside Karl Stefanovic.

Following last week’s accident, The Daily Telegraph reported Langdon will probably have to take a ‘lengthy break’ from her on-air duties.

Channel Nine will most likely ‘foot the bill’ for her medical bills and rehabilitation, too.

In a statement to Daily Mail Australia last Friday, a network spokesperson described what had happened as ‘an unfortunate accident’.

‘After nearly an hour of incident-free filming of a segment about hydrofoiling, Ally fell awkwardly as she headed back to the marina at the end of the shoot,’ they said.

‘It was an unfortunate accident, and she was immediately taken to hospital.’

The statement emphasised that both Stefanovic and Langdon had received ‘comprehensive safety induction and a thorough run-through of all aspects of hydrofoiling.

‘As with every shoot, safety requirements, briefings and subsequent after-care, are strictly followed and prioritised.’
