‘He’s on my turf!’ Today show weatherman crashes rival Sunrise’s live broadcast in awkward segment with near-matching outfits… amid Nine’s ratings battle with Seven

Channel Nine’s Weekend Today crashed rival Sunrise’s live weather report on Sunday morning.

With both shows presenting in Sydney’s Cronulla, Nine weatherman Tim Davies interrupted Seven’s James Tobin, during a live from a lifeguard tower.

After an awkward conversation about the weather, Today’s Tim said: ‘What a great weatherman – but I’m better, and he’s on my turf. This is my home town.’

Introducing the bizarre segment, Tim said: ‘Something quite unbelievable has happened here at Cronulla in the Sutherland Shire.’

While explaining that both shows were broadcasting in the same spot, Today’s Tim slipped up and accidentally said he was there with rival Sunrise.

‘So basically we turn up to do the Sunrise, er, to do Today show weather, here this morning – and Sunrise is here doing the weather,’ stumbled Tim.

Tim then instructed his cameraman to capture Sunrise’s broadcast above.

‘Take a look up there, it’s TV’s very own James Tobin. He’s live on air right now on the Seven network,’ said Tim. ‘Hello James, beautiful weather today, I love your forecast!’

The pair shared an odd exchange, discussing their similar choice of shirts, James said: ‘We better get on with everything, have a great day.’

Walking away, Tim concluded: ‘What a great weatherman – but I’m better, and he’s on my turf. This is my home town.’

The unusual channel crossover comes as the gap between the two shows in the fiercely competitive breakfast ratings battle is bigger than ever.

On April 19, Sunrise averaged a metro audience of 274,000, massively beating Today which had attracted a dismal 176,000.

Today recently hit an embarrassing low when it was seemingly beaten by ABC News Breakfast, but Channel Nine bosses have strongly disputed these figures.

The rebooted Today show has struggled to find an audience since Karl Stefanovic was sacked last year and replaced by Deborah Knight.
