Today show weatherman Steve Jacobs makes shock career announcement

Former Today show weatherman Steve Jacobs has announced that he is set to open a new restaurant in one of Sydney’s top hot spots.

The popular breakfast TV star, 56, told Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday that he has partnered with Tony’s Burger Joint of Bondi for the new eatery.

He said the restaurant, which opens next Tuesday, will be located in Enmore, a thriving entertainment precinct only 5kms from the CBD.

In an exclusive chat, the father-of-two said the new career move was a ‘bit of a pivot’ and did not mean he was retiring from television.

‘I’ll still be doing TV,’ he said, adding:  ‘TV is just so fragmented at the moment and I’ve spent the past five years focusing on my daughters.’

‘It’s been very hard for me to travel and work full time which is what I normally do.’

Elsewhere in the chat Steve commented on his recent gig hosting Channel 10’s Studio 10, which was axed last month.

‘It’s sad because I thought the show had so much potential…but I think its a sign of the times with free-to-air TV.’

Steve also revealed that he will continue to work on the air with 2GB in Sydney after the new restaurant, called Tony’s Enmore, launches next week.

Meanwhile, Steve said he and his new business partner, former music promoter Tony Gosden, have plans to expand the ‘Tony’s’ burger franchise to other locations including Byron Bay.

The new eatery in Enmore, Steve said, will be ‘the coolest burger joint in Australia’ and will feature live music.

He also said things were still going strong with girlfriend Amanda King, who have been romantically liked since 2019.

The couple were spotted at Sydney’s Endeavour Brewing & Tap Room on Tuesday.

Steve was previously married to TV presenter Rosie Jacobs, who is the mother of his two daughters, Isabella, 12, and Francesca, 10, but they separated in 2017.

They split just months after relocating to Vanuatu in what friends described at the time as a ‘last-ditch attempt’ to save their struggling seven-year marriage.

Steve rose to fame on Nine’s Today, as weather presenter and left in 2019 after a marathon 12-year stint in the role, after being replaced as the Today show’s weather presenter by Tim Davies.
