The youngster’s parents are understood to have taken refuge with the child under an entrance porch to the hotel during a heavy shower when the roof tile fell on her.

Local reports said it is is thought to have come loose because of the heavy rain.

She was stabilised at the scene before being rushed to Son Espases.

The girl, who was on holiday with her family, is believed to be Dutch.

The hotel where the horror incident occurred, around midday on Friday, has been identified as the Green Garden Aparthotel in the resort of Cala Rajada on Majorca’s east coast.

Civil Guard officers on the island are investigating and will present a report to a local judge tasked with coordinating the probe.

Hospital sources earlier confirmed the youngster was in a ‘very serious’ condition in intensive care after suffering severe head injuries.

No-one from the hotel, described as a four-star ‘family-friendly’ with services ‘specially designed for children’s entertainment and adults’ relax’, was immediately available for comment.

Police employed by the local Capdepera council which covers Cala Rajada said they were unable to comment.
