Toddler who died after being hit by a car at a popular showground is identified – as his heartbroken mother breaks her silence

A toddler who died after being hit by a car at a popular showground has been identified as three-year-old Toby Allen.

His heartbroken mum Tyana Maree Dowler announced the death of her ‘beautiful little boy’ who loved dinosaurs on social media.

‘It’s with a heavy heart that Chris, Ella, Arlo and myself have to post this,’ she posted on behalf of herself and her grieving family.

‘On Tuesday our beautiful little boy Toby was unfortunately involved in a tragic accident (resulting) in his precious little life being cut short.

‘At this point of time we are trying our hardest to get through each day and be there for what’s left of our family.’

Toby was found in a critical condition at Rockhampton Showgrounds on Exhibition Road, in central Queensland, at around 4.30pm on Tuesday.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics treated the three-year-old at the scene but he was unable to be saved.

The tragedy came a week before the start of the Rockhampton Agricultural Show.

Ms Dowler said it was a ‘very difficult time’ for her family.

‘We take solace in knowing our baby is watching us and as Ella would like to put it “he’s with all the dinosaurs he loves so much being their king and riding them”.

‘Fly high my beautiful boy. You are so loved in life and even more so in death.’

A GoFundMe has been set up to help pay for Toby’s funeral costs.

Organiser Amanda Mcpherson wrote that ‘the unimaginable tragedy has left (Toby’s) parents devastated with two other young children to care for.’

The fundraiser has already raised more than $17,000 of its $20,000 goal.

A memorial with toys and flowers has emerged outside Gate 8 at the Rockhampton Showgrounds, in tribute to the toddler.

The incident is being investigated by Workplace Health and Safety with assistance from the Forensic Crash Unit.
