Tokyo Olympics: Tom Daley will dive for ANOTHER gold after booking spot in 10m platform final

Tom Daley will dive for ANOTHER gold in Tokyo as the Brit avoids repeat of his heartache in Rio by sailing into the men’s 10m platform final later TODAY after qualifying in fourth

It’s job done for Tom Daley as he comfortably qualified for the men’s 10m platform final.

The Brit, who has already won one gold in Tokyo, will go for a medal again after avoiding a repeat of his heartache in Rio 2016 as he sailed through in fourth place.

It wasn’t a vintage performance from Daley, but the 27-year-old got better and better with each dive and was never in any trouble of missing out on the cut.

Five years ago, Daley dropped out at the semi-final stage of this event in Rio, but there was no concerns this time around.

His total of 462.90 was more than enough to secure safe passage into the final, which is due to get underway at 7am (UK time) on Saturday morning.

He will be one of the favourites to finish on the podium, but will have to improve on his first two performances if he is to overcome Chinese duo Cao Yuan and Yang Jian, who finished first and second in qualifying in the preliminaries and the semi-final this morning.

Daley, however, will be full of confidence going into the final having already won a gold medal at this summer’s Games.

The Team GB star, who is competing in his fourth Games, claimed his first Olympic gold medal in the synchronised 10m platform alongside Matty Lee last month.
