Tom Cruise admits to seeing his own movies on opening weekend on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Tom Cruise appeared as one of the special guests on Friday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The 60-year-old performer, ‘whose Ray-Bans and body oil saved the movie business,’ according to Kimmel, used his time on the program to promote the production of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

At one point the A-lister admitted to watching his own movies in the theater, telling Kimmel: ‘I go opening weekend. I love seeing movies that are made for the screen on the big screen.’

The actor, who recently flew himself to London, also spoke about working on Top Gun: Maverick, as well as well as his reunion with former costar Val Kilmer, who appeared in the sequel.

When discussing his old friend agreeing to play a pivotal role in the movie, he expressed that their on-screen reunion was ‘pretty emotional.’

He also spoke of his love of stunts. When Kimmel commented about how Cruise regularly put his life on the line to pull off death-defying stunts, the actor quipped: ‘Well, I did get in a car in this weather.’

The performer, who wore a navy suit during his appearance, went on to discuss his time working on the upcoming entry in the Mission: Impossible series, which he recently started filming.

When asked about the idea of watching the movie through a streaming service, he expressed that ‘the film is made for the screen…we made it for theatrical, me, my friends, the whole crew.’

Cruise then remarked that his goal as an actor was to appear in films that would likely please moviegoers.

‘When they really enjoy it, that’s what I want. I make my movies for audiences, for you all. So it’s a pleasure.’I just want to entertain you,’ he said.

Cruise went on to discuss his affinity for performing his own stunts, and the producer stated that he wanted to push his limits as a performer.

‘I just try to do everything I can, use every tool that I have, to entertain the audience,’ he said.

The actor added that he had been testing the boundaries of safety ever since he was a child, stating: ‘I’ve been doing it my whole life…to me it was just normal.’

The Eyes Wide Shut star also remarked that his mother had been supportive of him taking risks in pursuit of pulling off a stunt during his younger years.

Kimmel subsequently asked Cruise about various stunts he would consider attempting, the most dangerous of which was apparently running with scissors.

Unfazed, the Academy Award-nominated performer said: ‘We’ve all done that.’

The actor concluded his time on the show by wishing the program’s host luck with hosting the upcoming Academy Awards, to which the latter stated: ‘If it goes badly, you can fire me out of a cannon.’
