Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning co-star Hayley Atwell reveals what it’s really like to work with Tom Cruise
He’s the Hollywood superstar known for his daring stunts that seem to get more ambitious as the years go by.
But Tom Cruise also has a softer side, according to co-star Hayley Atwell.
The 41-year-old London born actress, who appears with Tom in his new blockbuster Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part I, says Top Gun legend is nothing like the man fans know from his movies.
Visiting Australia for the premiere of the film, Hayley told Yahoo Lifestyle on Tuesday that Tom was ‘warm, generous and funny’ and very family focussed.
She added that Tom even treated Hayley’s grand mother to a helicopter joy ride on Christmas eve, while the crew were while filming in London.

‘He’s so funny and self-aware and disarming about his own fame, and he goes out of his way to make people feel really comfortable,’ Atwell said in the interview.
‘He was so kind to my family and other cast members’ families. He took my grandmother on a helicopter ride on Christmas Eve over London. That’s pretty amazing. People don’t often hear those kinds of stories of how generous and kind he is off off-screen.’
‘I think that he knows that if you’re creating an environment where people feel seen, they feel like it’s a welcoming one, it’s a wholesome one because friends and family are welcome.
In the film Tom stars alongside Hayley, Pom Klementieff, and fan favourite cast member Simon Pegg.
This is Tom’s seventh MI film and will be released in Australian theatres on July 8.
Returning to the sequel are Tom’s usual sidekicks – veteran Hollywood names Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby.

Tom once again stars as special agent Ethan Hunt who works for the Impossible Missions Force (IMF).
Henry Czerny, who appeared in the original 1996 Mission Impossible as IMF director Eugene Kittridge, also makes a return in the latest instalment, which is packed with outrageous stunts.
At one point in the action Tom’s character actually rides off an enormous cliff on a motorcycle only to free fall and save himself with a parachute.
Tom actually performed the hair-raising stunt himself.
