Tom Cruise fist bumps Lewis Hamilton before star wins the British Grand Prix at Silverstone 

Hollywood icon Tom Cruise fist bumped Lewis Hamilton before the F1 ace won the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday.

The Hollywood icon, 59, looked in his element as he stood around chatting with the Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali and Lewis, 36. 

As well as the British Grand Prix, Tom has been spotted at various sporting events in recent weeks including the Wimbledon and Euro 2020 finals last week.

Tom, who was a guest of Mercedes, donned a black suede jacket for the event which saw Lewis win his 99th Grand Prix. 

Despite the warm weather in England, Tom seemed at ease wearing the jacket in the scorching sun.  

The Mission: Impossible star turned the collar of his coat up and wore a white V-neck shirt underneath. 

And, appearing to take inspiration from his former role, he donned a pair of aviators like his well-known character Maverick from Top Gun.

Maintaining current social distancing measures, he also wore a black mask over his nose and mouth.  

Hamilton delivered a remarkable comeback to win the British Grand Prix after he was accused of putting Max Verstappen’s life on the line when Formula One’s championship rivals crashed at 190mph.

Hamilton passed Charles Leclerc with only two-and-a-half laps remaining of a thrilling race after the Ferrari driver ran out of road on the exit of Copse in front of a 140,000 spectators.

Fans watched as Lewis Hamilton, the most successful Formula One driver of all time, crashed into big championship rival Max Verstappen on the circuit in the biggest sporting event to take place since the pandemic hit.

Verstappen was able to climb from the wreckage but appeared shaken up and winded and he was taken away in an ambulance for a precautionary check-up.

Hamilton was hit with a 10-second penalty for the terrifying lap-one shunt which saw Verstappen’s afternoon end in the barriers and subsequently hospital.

But his stunning win – his eighth on home turf – moved him to within seven points of Verstappen on a remarkable afternoon.

Hamilton jumped out his Mercedes and leapt over a barrier before waving the Union Flag in front of the packed grandstands.

The race at the Northamptonshire circuit was closely watched as an example of whether sporting events can take place safely amid the pandemic. 

It was allowed to go ahead as part of the third phase of the Government’s Events Research Programme (ERP), set up to test Covid Passports. 

In pre-Covid times, the British Grand Prix is normally the best-attended sports event in Britain and underpins a £2billion-a-year industry.
