One of Tom Cruise’s next films is a sci-fi thriller called Deeper.
The 62-year-old Hollywood vet — whose ex-wife Nicole Kidman just stunned on the red carpet — will star in 59-year-old director Doug Liman’s upcoming project, which is in early development, per Deadline.
According to the outlet, Liman gave the update at the recent Gaucho Gaucho screening in New York City.
He shared that he’s never made a scary movie while noting, ‘And neither has Tom.”
It comes after one week ago Cruise teased an upcoming project with his social media audience.

A single image showed him underwater, wearing black briefs while a diver in full gear floated nearby.
The leading man seemed to be holding some sort of device to his mouth as a cloud of bubbles rose above his head.
In a caption to his 13 million Instagram followers, he wrote, ‘The training and preparation we put into this film is a culmination of all before it. From the depths, to the skies, I can’t wait to share more with you.’
Deeper’s plot sees an astronaut confronted by a frightening force during a deep dive into an uncharted channel.
Before landing in Liman’s hands via Warner Bros. Studios, the movie was being produced at MGM back in 2016.
Bradley Cooper was slated to appear as the main character and Kornél Mundruczó was on board to direct.
Another fruitless attempt to create the feature included Idris Elba in the starring role with Baltasar Kormákur set to direct.
If the third iteration comes to fruition, it will mark the third or fourth collaboration for Tom and Doug, whose previous projects include Edge of Tomorrow and American Made.
The duo is currently also working on bringing a NASA film to life, which could be shot outer space in partnership with SpaceX.
On November 11, Tom appeared online again to promote the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning follow-up.
Uploading a trailer, he wrote to his fans, ‘Our lives are the sum of our choices. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. See you at the movies May 23, 2025.’
