Everton have confirmed Tom Davies will leave the club after the midfielder turned down the offer of a new contract.

The Toffees announced earlier this month that Davies was among three first team players offered new deals, along with captain Seamus Coleman and goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.

Davies has opted to turn down the offer to remain at Goodison Park, with the 24-year-old prioritising securing regular first team football.

‘We offered Tom a new contract, but he feels he has reached the stage in his career where he needs regular first-team football and, as a result, he wants to look at alternative options away from Everton,’ said Kevin Thelwell, Everton director of football.

‘As a lifelong Evertonian and proud Scouser, Tom has always given everything for the Club.

‘We respect his decision and thank him for his service and commitment.

‘Everyone at Everton wishes him the very best for the future.’

Davies had been with Everton since the age of 11 and progressed through the club’s academy to break into the first-team set-up.

The midfielder made his debut for his boyhood club as a 17-year-old against Southampton in 2016, while he became the club’s youngest captain at the age of 20 years and 60 days.

Davies also captained England at youth level up to the Under-21s.

The 24-year-old departs having made 179 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals.

Davies made 19 appearances in the Premier League last season, with nine coming under manager Sean Dyche.

Only four of his Premier League matches came as starts during the campaign, with Davies completing 90 minutes on only one occasion.
