Los Angeles

Ford and Buckley most recently lived in an estate in Los Angeles’ Holmby Hills neighborhood after they purchased the property – which once belonged to late socialite Betsy Bloomingdale – for  $38.75million in 2016.

According to Mansion Global, Ford secured a ‘respected discount’ on the 10,000-square-foot, which had originally been listed for $55million.

The house features nine bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a library, an outdoor living room, a pool house, tennis court and a rose garden.

It also has several formal and informal entertaining spaces where Bloomingdale and her husband, Alfred Bloomingdale, heir to the Bloomingdale’s department store fortune, hosted several parties for Hollywood’s elite.

The Bloomingdales bought the property in the 1950s and hired celebrity decorator Billy Haines to transform the home from a late-1920s Spanish colonial into a ‘glamorous Hollywood Regency-style affair’.

London

The couple purchased their stunning London townhouse – a home that Ford had turned into his ‘trophy property’ – in 2014 for £12 million (approximately $16.3million).

They listed the three-bedroom, three-bathroom house in September 2020 for £13.5million (approximately $18.4million), calling the property ‘a stand-alone gem’ on an exclusive Chelsea street, offering both privacy and a bright, open layout.

While the exterior of the 3,602-square-foot white stucco dwelling looked incredibly traditional, the inside touted an incredible sleek interior that was custom-designed by the fashion guru himself.

Ford’s designs included sleek aluminum wall treatments and a mix of light-and-dark colors that gave the space a modern feel throughout the four floors.

The ground floor featured a formal dining room and a large reception room with french doors leading out into the west-facing garden.

One traditional element of the property included the dumbwaiter lift which services the dining room from the kitchen on the lower ground floor.

The first floor was comprised of a secondary sitting room/study and a double bedroom suite.

The second floor was laid out as the principal bedroom suite with a large dressing room and en suite bathroom.

It also boasted a further double bedroom, kitchen, laundry and cloakroom and additionally a wine cellar, gym and steam room on the lower ground floor.

The property – located on a quiet street that falls within The Boltons Conservation Area – is just a short walk from the fashionable restaurants, shops and galleries of the chic neighborhood.

When Ford put the property on the market in September 2020, he had reportedly not lived at the home in quite some time.

It is unclear if the couple managed to sell the home, however the real estate listing has since been deleted.

Ford, 60, originally met Buckley, 72, at a New York fashion show in 1986. They were partners for over three decades and officially wed in 2014 shortly after same-sex marriage was legalized in the U.S.

The couple also shares an eight-year-old son, Alexander John ‘Jack’ Buckley Ford.

Buckley passed away of natural causes on Sunday night after battling prolonged illness.

Ford announced his death in a statement reading: ‘It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband of 35 years, Richard Buckley.

‘Richard passed away peacefully at their home in Los Angeles last night with Tom and their son Jack by his side. He died of natural causes after a long illness.’

Specific details surrounding Buckley’s death have not yet been released.

However, it is known that the journalist has faced multiple health battles. In 1989, just three years after the couple met, Buckley was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent surgery.

Despite being told it could be fatal, he pulled through and the pair shared a love-filled life together for over three decades.
