The actor, 66, who stars as the title character, and his wife Rita, 66, who produces through their Playtone company, hit the red carpet on Monday.
The film will first arrive in limited release on Christmas Day to qualify for awards season, before it opens nationwide on January 13.

A Man Called Otto is adapted from the 2012 Swedish novel A Man Called Ove, which was turned into a 2015 Swedish film of the same name starring Rolf Lassgard.
The story follows the title character (Tom), a grumpy man who has given up on life after his wife passed away, and wants to end it all.

The plot takes a turn when a young family moves in next door, as Otto’s life is turned upside down.
The film is also called The World’s Worst Neighbour in Spanish, going by the name El Peor Vecino Del Mundo.
Both Tom and Rita will star in the ensemble cast of director Wes Anderson’s new film Asteroid City, slated for release next year.
Tom will also star in the new film entitled Here, starring alongside Kelly Reilly, Robin Wright and Paul Bettany.
