Tom Hanks gives two brides a shock as he crashes their wedding in Santa Monica

Tom Hanks awkwardly put his foot in his mouth as he questioned ‘where’s the groom?’ while crashing a same-sex wedding on Santa Monica beach over the weekend – before quickly realising his error.

The guests burst into laughter as the Oscar winner, 65, asked to take a picture with the bride and groom after accidentally walking into their ceremony, only to realise it was a same-sex union.

After realising his mistake, Tom shouted ‘Oh get out, my stock just exploded!’, before putting his arms around the two brides, Diciembre and Tashia Farries, to pose for a photograph.

The newlyweds later praised Tom for ‘not batting an eyelid’ over their marriage, as they admitted they still face some homophobic prejudice ‘even in 2021’.

The lovebirds had assembled their wedding on the beach with friends and family in attendance, but as the ceremony was wrapping up, Tom decided to approach the couple.

‘Everyone is saying, ‘There’s Tom Hanks!” Tashia recounted in an interview, adding that she and Diciembre were shocked to see the actor.

In video shot on the beach, he seemed particularly tickled to learn that it was a same-sex wedding, after first asking guests where the groom was.

Members of the couple’s friends and family could be heard explaining to younger guests who Tom was, with one women telling her son he was ‘Woody from Toy Story’, while another referenced Castaway.

According to Tashia, Tom had been watching the ceremony from afar and was so moved by it that he decided to approach the couple afterward.

Didn't see that coming: 'Everyone is saying, "There's Tom Hanks!"' Tashia recounted in an interview, adding that she and Diciembre were shocked to see the actor

Sweet: 'He said, "I saw the ceremony from back there and it had to be one of the most beautiful ceremonies that I've ever seen,"' she recounted

‘He said, ‘I saw the ceremony from back there and it had to be one of the most beautiful ceremonies that I’ve ever seen,” she recounted.

The Forrest Gump star posed for pictures with the newlyweds and their one-year-old son son, who looked cute in a burgundy suit.

Tashia added that Tom gave them some ‘positive words’ and told them to ‘keep the love alive.’

Although Tashia works as a private chef for a number of celebrity clients, even she was left starstruck after running into a superstar like Hanks.

For Diciembre, their surprise guest was the cherry on top of an already perfect day.

‘Our wedding was already a dream to me,’ she said. ‘To finally marry her — this was our day. And everybody we love was there, and… Tom Hanks just walks up! Out of all days, out of all people, he walked on the beach today. It was meant [to be].’

She added that Tom’s celebration of their union also added a small bit of validation to their wedding.

‘For us to be two women — yes it’s 2021, but it’s just unfortunately not accepted everywhere yet. But it’s like he didn’t even see that,’ she said.

Tom’s presence seemed even more like fate when he noticed a photo of Diciembre’s late brother, who died in 2017.

His portrait had been propped up on a chair with the rest of the family.

When they told the star more about her brother, Tom revealed that he shared the same birthday as Diciembre’s brother.

‘So he wasn’t at the wedding, but Tom Hanks coming was his way of saying he was here,’ she said.

Tom himself has been happily married to Rita Wilson, 65, since 1988.

Bonus: Diciembre (R) said the wedding to Tashia was like a 'dream', and Tom's presence only made it better. 'Out of all days, out of all people, he walked on the beach today. It was meant [to be]'

This isn’t the first time he has become an unexpected guest at a wedding. In 2016, the star surprised a newlywed couple taking their wedding photos in Central Park.

The actor was jogging through the park when he saw the wedding photo shoot and decided to introduce himself to the happy bride and groom, Elisabeth and Ryan.

The star-struck newlyweds then invited him to take a few pictures with them, and their wedding photographer, Meg Miller, has since posted the adorable shots to her Instagram page.

Back in 1993 when he was filming Forrest Gump in Beaufort, South Carolina, he introduced himself to bride Mary Dunning Chapman as she prepared to walk down the aisle.

She later told a local news website: ‘I saw this light blue Lincoln at the stop light just down from the church, and there was a guy hanging out waving and honking the horn. I didn’t think anything of it…..by the time we got to the front of the church, the car pulled up, and this guy hops out and runs up to me!

‘He says, “Hey, I’m Tom Hanks, and I just wanted to say good luck!” He hugged me and kissed me on the cheek!! I was shocked but managed to get the photographer to snap a great shot. The rest of the wedding was kind of a blur!!’

Weddings aren’t the only time that Hanks has been known to pose for fans’ pictures.

In 2012, a set of photos emerged showing Hanks posing with a fan who was pretending to be passed out drunk in a North Dakota restaurant.
