Tom Hiddleston opens up about how fatherhood changed his life before accepting an award at the Miami Film Festival

Tom Hiddleston opened up about fatherhood during an appearance at the Miami Film Festival.

The 43-year-old actor – who recently opened up about the future of his Marvel TV series Loki – was honored with Variety’s Virtuoso Award on Wednesday.

Hiddleston and his fiancee Zawe Ashton, who he’s been with since 2019, welcomed their first child in October 2022.

While hitting the red carpet before the event (via 7 News Miami), Hiddleston was asked about the impact that becoming a father has had on his life.

‘It’s just changed everything. It changed the center of my life completely. There’s a before and an after, and I’m happy to be living in the after,’ he said.

‘It’s the most profound honor to be here. I’m so grateful to Variety and the Miami Film Festival and Miami Dade College for inviting me,’ he added.

Hiddleston and Ashton, a British actress and playwright, started dating in 2019 and they got engaged in June 2022.

Just a few months later, they welcomed their first child in October 2022, though they have yet to reveal the child’s name or gender.

During his speech at the festival – at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami – Hiddleston thanked the festival for the award.

‘I’m grateful for this great honor, thank you so much for giving it to me,’ Hiddleston said on stage.

‘Honestly, when I think of the word virtuoso, I think of a dazzling violin soloist standing in front of the orchestra, and I feel about as far from that as you can possibly imagine,’ Hiddleston joked.

‘The truth is, of course, I’m not, and by that I mean, for me, the joy of my life as an actor, has been about being in a company,’ he added.

‘What we do as actors is a collective, creative endeavor and the joy of it is sharing the dream, sharing the space within the architecture of our imagination,’ he said.

When asked about the future of his hit Marvel TV series Loki last week at the Hulu on Disney Plus launch, he wasn’t so certain.

‘I truly don’t know. There have been other times when I thought it was the end and I’ve been mistaken, but if this is the end, I’m so proud of where we ended up,’ he said.
