Toni Collette talks monogamy and reveals how she met her husband

She’s been happily married to musician husband Dave Galafassi for 15 years. 

And on Saturday, Australian actress Toni Collette, 45, shared her thoughts on marriage and monogamy. 

‘When people get married, they’re very idealistic, but it’s hard to know how people are going to grow and change,’ Toni told The Sydney Morning Herald.

Toni made the comments when speaking about her racy new show Wanderlust – in which she plays a counsellor desperately trying to save her marriage, with temptation all around her, her husband and their friends.

She added: ‘And if you don’t make an effort to [do that] together, you don’t know what’ll happen.’

Toni said that she thinks her show will be a great ‘conversation starter’.

Recently, the star told Radio Times it is an honour to portray a middle-aged woman in a way that has not been substantially seen on TV.

She told the publication: ‘Someone told me I was the first woman to have an orgasm on the BBC… and I’m happy to take the accolade.’ 

Meanwhile, the Muriel’s Wedding star also gushed about her husband Dave to The Sydney Morning Herald this week, revealing they first met after one of his Sydney gigs, before they met for the second time at a house party, where sparks flew. 

‘He kissed me on the cheek and I just kind of melted,’ she said, saying she only wanted to drop in on the party for ten minutes but ended up staying for 12 hours.

The pair have two children together, daughter Sage, 10, and son Arlo, seven, and are based in the US.

In May she told Stellar that juggling her career and family life can be ‘maddening’ at times but she wouldn’t have it any other way. 

‘But it’s worth it in the end because, as I say, both areas of my life are really, really important to me,’ she said. 

However the actress confessed that she and Dave employed extra help to take care of their kids.

She said: ‘We’ve had nannies from time to time, but we had kids because we wanted children and we want to be with them.’
