‘Too bad we didn’t have the G7 there’: Donald Trump laments that next year’s G7 won’t be held at his Doral resort in Miami after the club was named Golf.com’s Resort of the Week

  • Trump said it’s ‘too bad’ the Group of Seven summit June won’t be held at his Doral resort
  • Golf.com name the Trump-branded golf club its Resort of the Week last week
  • Trump proposed last month that next year’s Group of Seven summit should be held at his golf club in Miami
  • Trump said he would have hosted the G7 summit at his resort for free
  • The president is now considering Camp David as an alternative location

Donald Trump’s Doral golf club in Miami was named the resort of the week on Golf.com, which prompted the president to bring up the backlash he faced for proposing the 2020 Group of Seven summit be held at his golf club.

‘Too bad we didn’t have the G-7 here,’ Trump posted to Twitter Sunday along with a link to the article detailing the honor. ‘I offered to pick up the entire cost, would have saved at least $35,000,000 for the USA. Best location. Very stupid people thought I would gain. Wrong!’

‘Looking at Camp David,’ he continued in proposing an alternative location for the leaders of seven world powers to meet in June. ‘Will announce soon.’

In October, Trump proposed holding the annual summit, which the U.S. is set to host next year, at Trump National Doral Golf Club.

He, however, reversed the decision after Republican allies in the Senate indicated they didn’t feel it was a good move.

The president insisted he would have allowed the G7 to be held at the Trump-branded resort ‘for nothing,’ and claims it would have been the cheapest and most secure option for the U.S.

‘The Democrats went crazy, even though I would have done it free. Saved the country a lot of money,’ Trump said in a rant to reporters last month. ‘Then they say, ‘Oh, but you’ll get promotion.’ Who cares? You don’t think I get enough promotion? I get more promotion than any human being that’s ever lived.’

‘I don’t need promotion,’ he continued.

The G7 Summit is an annual meeting between the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States – the seven largest advanced economies, according to the International Monetary Fund.

The participating countries rotate hosting the annual summit – and last year’s was held in France.

Trump went after the media when his proposal for holding the summit at one of his own resorts was brought up after he retracted the proposal.

‘You people with this phony Emoluments Clause,’ Trump dismissed while speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting last month. He claimed he doesn’t need to use his office to ‘promote’ his business.

The Emoluments Clause is a constitutional provision that prohibits presidents and other members of the federal government from using their office to enrich themselves or their personal businesses.

‘Resort of the Week: Trump National Doral Miami,’ Golf.com ranks in his past week’s edition of ‘Top 100 Resort of the Week.’

‘Ever heard of the Blue Monster? If you are a golf fan and haven’t, first off, where have you been? Secondly, it’s time to check it out. The Blue Monster is the centerpiece of four fabulous courses at Trump National Doral Miami. The Blue Monster was a long-time PGA Tour venue and recently underwent a renovation from famed architect Gil Hanse. Now it’s better — and tougher — than ever,’ the description outlines of the Trump golf course.

‘There’s plenty to do after playing golf, too. For starters, there are three dynamite restaurants and a tranquil spa experience (up to 100 different offerings!), or enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the Royal Palm pool, which has 18 private cabanas and a 125-foot slide,’ it lauded.
