The driver of the ute has been taken to Dalby Hospital with minor injuries.

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area with the road to remain closed for several hours on Monday as investigations continue.

Police Inspector Greg Wheeler told the ABC that paramedics were struggling with what they had encountered at the scene of the crash.

‘You know, a family basically here one minute, not the next. It’s very difficult to fathom how it’s actually occurred,’ he said.

‘It was pretty horrific for everyone, whenever there are children involved it’s extra traumatic for those [responding].’

Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said: ‘Can I please remind everyone that we have a significant challenge with our road toll this year. People on the road need to obey the rules of the road and drive to the conditions.’
