BOLD BEAUTIFUL BROWS

According to Andrea, the most common request is thicker, fuller brows.

‘Its amazing to see a person’s confidence skyrocket with new brows,’ said the artist who has perfected her skillset working with some of the top artists in the US.

Adding: ‘It’s the main reason I’m obsessed with this job.’

A brow technician must posses vision as it’s up to the artist to ‘create a brow that enhances the client’s natural brow shape and fullness while framing the eye perfectly.’

Andrea urges anyone considering this service to do their research.

Read client reviews on the technician and ask to see pictures of their work, then take your top three to the appointment.

'A great artist will hold your hand through the appointment and answer all of your questions, give you their protocol and insure that you leave with the right aftercare instructions'

‘Word of mouth Is probably the best way to go,’ she shares.

‘If you have a friend or a family member that has been to someone you can see their results and ask them questions like how long the artist has been doing PMU.’

Andrea advises making sure your artist is working under a state tattoo license and statewide health regulations to ensure a clean work space.

‘Always look at the needle that is being used on you, make sure it is new and in a package.

THE EXPERT ANSWERS ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS:

How does Microblading work?

Microblading is done using a hand held tool (instead of a traditional tattoo machine) with multiple tiny needles lined up to form a blade.

It allows the artist to deposit ink in delicate, feathery lines that mimic hair strokes.’

Who is a good candidate?

Microblading is great for anyone who experienced some hair loss and/or looking to achieve a full natural looking brow.

Does it hurt?

Microblading can be uncomfortable. Most artist use a numbing cream to help eliminate discomfort. I would say most of my clients rate the pain at about a 1-2 with numbing.

There is a very strict after care that come with this service,' warns Andrea. 'You can’t sweat for 10-14 days and its important to keep the brows moist with ointment and keep that area clean.

Proper after care

According to Andrea, there are very strict after care instructions with this service.

If you do not follow proper aftercare the brows can fade or heal splotchy.

How Long Does Microblading last?

Microblading can last 12-18 months with yearly touch ups.

This can vary if there is constant exposure to sunlight, constant use of skin exfoliation products or services, and natural skin retention.

She sees longer results with dryer skin types, revealing that a client with oily skin will need more frequent touch-ups.

Are there any risks?

Let your artist know if you have any allergies or if you are on any medication including topical skin creams.

She suggests asking for a patch test with ink and numbing cream if you feel like there may be a possible allergic reaction, but says experienced artist know what to look for.

While we’re most familiar with semi-permanent tattooing methods designed to enhance the natural color and shape of a mouth, eyes or brows, Andrea shares that there are other uses.

‘Currently trending in PMU is faux freckles. Add cute, sexy fun freckles to freshen up your complexion,’ she says.

‘PMU can also be used to camouflage scars (such as stretch marks) and is also being used to create faux nipples for breast reconstruction or mastectomy patients.

‘Heart shaped nipples are also trending!’
