Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are currently the biggest names in the world of football. However, they are behind a few players in terms of trophies.
The 2020-21 season saw both Messi and Ronaldo missing out on their league titles. The Portuguese footballer’s 29 goals couldn’t help Juventus win the Serie A title as they finished 13 points behind eventual winners Inter Milan. But the former Manchester United star and the famous EPL top scorer managed to win the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana with the Old Lady last campaign.
Messi also smashed 30 league goals but the La Liga title was ultimately snapped up by Atletico Madrid. However, the Argentine claimed the Copa del Rey, netting three goals and an assist for the Catalans in the tournament.
1 – Dani Alves
Dani Alves is regarded as one of the greatest right-backs of all time. He joined Barcelona in 2008 in a deal worth €32.5 million after spending six years with Sevilla. The amazing defender enjoyed tremendous successes during the following years at Camp Nou. By the time he left the Catalans in 2016, the 38-year-old had won 23 major honours, including six La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.
Alves subsequently signed for Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Sao Paulo, clubs where he claimed 19 more major trophies. He also swelled his trophy cabinet with the Brazil national team, winning two Copa Americas as well as two Confederations Cups.
2 – Maxwell
Maxwell played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe during his 17-year career, including Ajax, Internazionale, Barcelona and PSG.
The Brazilian left-back started his career at Cruzeiro before signing for Ajax in the summer of 2001. After winning two Eredivisie titles with the Dutch giants, he joined Inter and achieved enormous successes at the San Siro as well, including winning three Serie A titles.
His performances attracted the attention of Barcelona who splashed €4.5m to secure his services in the summer of 2009. With the Spanish giants, he landed two La Liga titles, three Supercopa de Espana as well as a Copa del Rey.
The 39-year-old’s final stint at PSG saw him winning four Ligue 1 titles, thus making him one of the most decorated footballers of all time.
3 – Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. He spent his whole career with Barcelona, playing an integral role in all the successes of the club.
Messi, one of the most famous football players of all time, is the product of La Masia where he progressed through its ranks to make his competitive debut in October 2004 when he was 17 years old. He went on to garner incredible successes at the Spanish side, with talented forward helping them win the Treble in his first uninterrupted season.
The 34-year-old has the distinction of winning a club-record 34 trophies, including ten league titles and four Champions League trophies. He has made 520 La Liga appearances for the Catalans so far, plundering an incredible 474 goals in the process.
