TOP SPIN AT THE TEST: England make history for only the second time since WW2 and Joe Root storms up the all-time runs list as hosts dominate West Indies on Day One at Trent Bridge

  • England dominated Day One of their second Test against the West Indies
  • Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope were the hosts’ stars of the day at Trent Bridge
  • History was made as Joe Root climbed further up the all-time run scoring list

England kick-started their second Test against the West Indies with an impressive batting display that saw the hosts eventually bowled out for 416 runs.

Put into bat after the Windies won the toss at Trent Bridge put the pressure on Brendon McCullum’s side to start strong only to immediately struggle as Zak Crawley was dismissed after just three balls.

Crawley’s struggles were quickly forgotten though as Ben Duckett raced to 71 runs, Ollie Pope top scored on 121 and Ben Stokes added another half-century to his sensational England Test record.

West Indies denied England a chance to continue batting on Day Two with Shoaib Bashir managing just five runs before being caught behind and wrapping up his side’s first innings.
