Topless barmaid reconsiders her career because no one carries cash

‘It feels a bit awkward to ask’: Topless barmaid reveals how she once took home $700 A DAY in tips – but is now reconsidering her career because her customers no longer carry cash

  • Jenna Veuve works as topless barmaid and says she makes $200 tip during shift
  • She said she used to earn $700 and blames the cashless society for decrease
  • Ms Veuve feels awkward asking for tips which is what others have recommended

A topless barmaid says a drastic decline in tips thanks to the new cashless society has made her reconsider her career.

Jenna Veuve was earning up to $700 in tips during eight-hour shifts as a ‘skimpy’ barmaid, entertaining miners and farmers in remote towns in Western Australia.

She said most people now pay using a credit card, their watch or phone rather then cash, which has seen her tips drop to about $200 per shift.

‘The advice I have been given is just to ask the guys to get cash out for tips, but it feels a bit awkward to ask that,’ Ms Veuve told Perth Now.

She said people have also recommended walking around carrying an EFTPOS machine and tip jar, which also makes her uncomfortable.

In 2015, Ms Veuve decided to take on topless waitressing for private parties.

‘Everyone is still really accepting but there is just less cash because we are this cashless society now, especially with the younger generation,’ she said.

These women who call themselves ‘skimpies’ serve drinks in rural pubs in Western Australia wearing lingerie.

They can make up to $6,000 a night as they entertain miners and farmers.

Small towns including Kalgoorlie, where Ms Veuve has been based since 2011, attract many – with local miners earning six-figure salaries which are among the highest in Australia.
