Convicted terrorist Ahmed al-Darbi, who has been beaten and threatened with rape behind bars, is living the high life at Guantánamo Bay while working as a witness for a war prosecutor in two high-profile court cases.
The 42-year-old, who pleaded guilty to terrorism for his involvement in the 2002 al-Qaida attack upon a French oil tanker in southeastern Yemen, is also the brother-in-law of Khalid al-Mihdhar, who took part in the September 11 attacks.
Following his 2002 arrest, Darbi was held at Bagram Air Force Base before being transferred to the newly-opened Guantánamo later in the year, when he has been threatened and abused, he said Sunday, according to a report by the Miami Herald.
He has been placed in ‘solitary confinement, deprived of sleep and subjected to midnight-to-dawn, no-bathroom-break questioning in an interrogation room stinking of urine and vomit.’

Darbi was also threatened with rape and shown ‘photo copies of pages of the Koran’ which were thrown in front of him ‘with sex photos and pictures of mutilated bodies,’ Darbi testified.
The prisoner called it a ‘period of helplessness and hopelessness’.
Now, Darbi holds valuable recording evidence against French oil tanker attack mastermind Abd al Rahim al Nashiri, and is provided some special treatment.
The Miami Herald reports Darbi is currently ‘living like a king’ – with a fridge stocked with a variety of foods and spices. He eats halal meat, lamb, rabbit and Strawberries n’ Creme Oreos, Turkish delight and pecan pie.

He also has a fridge full of halal meat, lamb and rabbit, to name a few, as well as access to a garden
He is provided ‘cilantro, cumin and cloves to cook with using a hotplate, blender and microwave in his kitchen’ and even has a fresh garden.
He is also allowed to watch hours of cable television for being a ‘cooperating witness.’
Furthermore, ‘Darbi has a battery-powered Oral B Pro Health toothbrush, with replacement heads and a Magic Bullet blender.’

He has ‘free weights and a spin bike for exercising, and Under Armour T-shirts and athletic socks to wear when he works out in his compound.’
The witness has also been treated to phone calls once a month with his family, who reside in Saudi Arabia.
According to the Hearld, Darbi is set to go to a Saudi rehabilitation program on February 20 under a plea agreement made during the Obama administration.
Aside from his testimony of Nashiri, Darbi also testified about his time as a jihadist in the Islamic militant organization.
