Torvill and Done! Stars to hang up their skates after 50 years on ice – as they reveal when they will dance together for the last time

After 50 years on ice, they have amassed four World Championship wins, an Olympic gold and millions of loyal viewers.

But now that Torvill and Dean have a bus pass under their belt, it seems it really is time to hang up the skates for good.

Jayne Torvill, 67, and Christopher Dean, 66, have confirmed they will perform on TV for the last time during this year’s series of Dancing On Ice, which returns to ITV tomorrow at 6.30pm.

And after their UK tour, which runs from April until July, the skating duo will retire with a final show in Nottingham.

The pair told the Mail: ‘Now we both have a bus pass, it’s time.

‘This is our last year, so it’s a big one. We are going to do two performances during the series, but the second will be our last on television. We knew on our 50th year we would hang our skates up.

‘We will still do the show, always, but not skate any more. We thought this year was a good time to do it.’

The friends made their name at the 1984 Winter Olympics, when more than 24million viewers tuned in to watch their legendary Bolero routine.

In 2006, they became judges on ITV’s Dancing On Ice. But ratings have fallen over the years. The last series saw

one episode pull in only 2.9million viewers, against the 12million it won at its peak.
