Tory activist fears acid attack after having perfume thrown in their face in London

  • A spokesman said previous reports that the substance was acid were incorrect 
  • Area’s Conservative candidate is Theresa Villiers, the Environment Secretary

A Tory activist was left fearing an acid attack today after being sprayed with perfume in London. 

The activist was ‘shocked’ by the attack in Chipping Barnet and went to a police station before further tests were carried out in hospital, according to Tory sources. 

The campaigner was not badly injured by the incident, which is not believed to be politically motivated.

The constituency’s Conservative candidate, Environment Secretary Theresa Villiers, is defending a majority of less than one percent. 

Recent polls suggest Labour’s Emma Whysall could now be on course for a victory.  

MailOnline has contacted the British Transport Police for comment.

The local Conservative association refused to provide any details about what had happened.
