Antonio Conte has insisted he is ‘wants to stay’ and is ‘really committed’ to Tottenham despite being yet to extend his contract at the club.

The Italian’s deal expires at the end of this season, although there is an option for one more year.

Conte has stalled on accepting a new contract after holding talks with the club during the World Cup.

The 55-year-old has reiterated his commitment, despite the ongoing uncertainty over his future. 

Conte sought to play down suggestions he was unhappy at Tottenham, claiming he is at a ‘modern club’.

‘I am happy but I always say to you I am happy,’ Conte said at a pre-match press conference, as per Football.London. ‘I want to stay here. I am enjoying my time in Tottenham, I am enjoying my work in Tottenham.

‘I always say this and I am happy but it doesn’t mean I cannot tell you what we are doing. We are trying to create a base foundation.

‘It is difficult for me every day to repeat the same thing and for you not to understand. I am happy to stay here because I am at a modern club, I have a good relationship with the players and I have a good relationship with the club.  

‘There are times I go home and I think maybe I need to study English better because I’m not good at transferring my thoughts.’ 

Conte had hinted after Tottenham’s 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa that the club need to spend in upcoming windows to compete at the top of the Premier League.

The Italian claimed there were ‘unrealistic expectations’ on his side, insisting it was ‘crazy’ to see have seen suggestions Spurs could challenge for the title during the summer.

The former Inter Milan boss had suggested the club needed to add sign ‘important players’ to improve the quality of the team, with a foundation of 14-15 strong players needed to mount a title challenge.

Conte has claimed is committed to helping the club to grow its project.

‘Now I am really committed for this club and for Tottenham. Then there is this project and I signed a contract with this club to accept this project and try to build and help the club. 

‘During this process it can happen 1,000 things. The club can sack the manager or there are different visions, different situations.’
