  • Spurs are looking at signing Gladbach striker Marcus Thuram, say reports

Tottenham have prioritised the signing of Borussia Moenchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram with negotiations at an advanced stage, according to reports.

Spurs are braced for the potential departure of star striker and talisman Harry Kane, who informed the Premier League club of his desire to quit earlier this summer.

Meanwhile, Thuram – son of French World Cup winner Lillian – has hit double digit goal tallies for Gladbach in the last two seasons and is part of France’s 26-man for the European Championships this summer.

And according to RMC Sport, Thuram is set to leave the Bundesliga side during this transfer window and the player is speaking to Spurs over a potential transfer.

Thuram joined Gladbach in the summer of 2019 from French side Guingamp and immediately hit the ground running in Germany, scoring ten goals in his debut Bundesliga season as Marco Rose’s side finished in fourth.

The French striker also showed excellent link-up play and formed a devastating partnership with countryman Alassane Plea at the Bundesliga club.

The season just finished has proven to be a more challenging one for both player and club, with Gladbach finishing in eighth spot to miss out on European football altogether for next season.

Thuram, who scored eight league goals in the 2020-21 campaign, made his France debut last November and has managed to keep his place in Didier Deschamps’ side for Euro 2020.

Meanwhile, Spurs striker Kane will also be at the European Championships captaining England – with significant doubts surrounding the 27-year-old’s future at Tottenham.

Spurs finished in seventh-place last season and fail to win a trophy – which saw them miss out on both Champions League and Europa League football for next season.

Tottenham owner Daniel Levy sacked Jose Mourinho in April and interim boss Ryan Mason failed to inspire Spurs to a positive end to the season and a poor run-in was compounded by Kane’s declaration that he wants to leave.

Manchester City appears to be the most likely next destination for the striker, who is Spurs’ second all-time highest goalscorer in their history, with Chelsea and Manchester United also interested.

For Levy, the immediate plan has been to install a new manager at the Spurs helm and despite failed moves for Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte – Spurs appear to have turned to former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca as their next boss.

The club also hired former Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici as their new director of football to assist whoever the incoming head coach turns out to be.
