  • Newcastle and Brentford have also made enquiries about the Danish defender
  • Andersen made 32 Premier League appearances for the Eagles last season

Tottenham are reportedly prepared to rival Newcastle in a bid to sign Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen this summer.

Andersen earned admirers from across the Premier League with his performances in the heart of the Eagles defence last season.

The former Lyon star built a strong partnership with Marc Guehi as a returning Roy Hodgson comfortably guided the club to a mid-table finish while suffering just two defeats in their last ten Premier League games.

Brentford made an enquiry to sign Andersen last month, with the Bees’ £20m valuation said to be significantly lower than Palace’s asking price.

According to a report from The Sun, Ange Postecoglou is keen on signing the 27-year-old as he looks to revamp the Spurs side that failed to qualify for European football last season.

However, Palace are reportedly holding out for a £50million fee to allow the Denmark international to leave Selhurst Park this summer, a fee that would be close to the club-record fee Spurs spent signing Tanguy Ndombele in 2019.

Securing such a fee for Andersen would allow Hodgson some room to manoeuvre in the transfer market, with the former Liverpool boss currently hamstrung with a tight budget.

Jefferson Lerma is the only new arrival at the club thus far, having joined from Bournemouth on a free transfer, with talisman Wilfried Zaha’s future still unknown after his contract expired at the end of June.

Meanwhile Spurs have been active in market, signing James Maddison, Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, and making Dejan Kulusevski’s loan permanent as Postecoglou attempts to put his stamp on the squad.

However, star man Harry Kane looks increasingly likely to depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Bayern Munich reportedly confident of securing the striker’s signature this summer.
