  • Antonio Conte is keen to improve his squad before the end of the month
  • Tottenham are involved in a fierce battle to make the Champions League spots

Tottenham have reportedly submitted a bid to sign Porto winger Luis Diaz, as manager Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his squad by the end of the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic season so far, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.

Spurs are involved in a fierce battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League and Conte is determined to bolster his attacking options.

Tottenham have reportedly made a £37.6million bid for FC Porto’s attacking star Luis Diaz

SIC Noticias have claimed that Tottenham have tabled a €45million (£37.6m) offer that could rise with performance-based bonuses.

It’s also said that Tottenham have given the Portuguese side 48 hours to respond to their offer.

Liverpool have also recently been linked with the Colombian international but it’s understood that they are not looking to make any signings during the January transfer window.

Tottenham have also been linked with another winger in the form of Wolves star Adama Traore.

The 26-year-old’s goal output is not as impressive as that of Diaz, with just one goal in 23 appearances across all competitions this season.

However, he would likely be a cheaper alternative that the Colombia star.

It was reported earlier this week that Tottenham and Wolves are moving towards a compromise agreement of around £20million for Adama Traore.

Talks are still ongoing over a deal after Wolves previously rejected a bid from Tottenham of £15m.

Asked for his opinions on the club’s need to spend this month after Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend, Conte responded: ‘The club know very well what I think. There is not one transfer market to close the gap.

‘The last few years this gap became very very big and now it is not simple to find a solution in a short time.

‘I am only focused to work until the end, we have four months to try to give everything, but if we think we solve with the transfer market the situation, it is not the reality. You need many years, but for sure we have to start.’

Tottenham are seventh in the standings and two points behind fourth placed Manchester City – though they also have two games in hand.
