Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo remained tight-lipped on Harry Kane’s future after watching his side beat Manchester City in their opening league game.

Kane has made it clear he wants to leave Spurs for City this summer, with Pep Guardiola’s side desperate to sign the striker before the end of the transfer window.

The England captain was left out of the Tottenham squad after only returning to full training on Friday due to having to isolate on his return to the UK. It is understood that Kane was deemed as not yet ready to return to Premier League action.

Nuno was pressed on Kane’s future and his absence from the stadium but refused to be drawn on whether he would be in contention to play against Wolves next weekend.

‘Harry is one of the best players in the world, we are very lucky to have him. He has to get ready and help the team,’ he said.

‘I don’t know (if he will play against Wolves), we still have to go to Portugal, then we think about Wolves.’

‘I’m sure that with commitment and the talent we have, we will be a good team. I’m learning with them every day.’

However, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville took Kane’s omission from the squad as an indication he will leave the club before the end of the transfer window.

‘Every other England player at the Euros I think has played this weekend. Harry Kane would be here today if there was no doubt over his future,’ Neville said.

‘I took (his absence today) as meaning he’s gone. We were looking for him everywhere – not seeing him today here in the stadium was a surprise.

‘I do believe (his absence) means he’s gone. I could be wrong but Kane comes back late, he’s in isolation, he’s come back late – something’s going on. Something’s happened.’

It is understood that City retain a confidence that a deal can yet still be achieved, and are poised to table an official £120million bid in the coming days.
