Tottenham ‘set for fresh talks with Antonio Conte over a new long-term contract this week’

Tottenham will hold further talks over a new contract with manager Antonio Conte this week.

Conte’s current deal expires at the end of this season though Spurs have an option to extend it by 12 months to the summer of 2024.

Initial talks have already taken place about an improved and longer-term agreement and they will now continue.

Spurs went into the World Cup break fourth in the Premier League with Conte also steering them through to the knockout stages of the Champions League where they will face Italians AC Milan in the last-16.

And the north Londoners are satisfied that the Italian is more than content with how things are progressing at the club.

Conte has, though, also made no secret of his ambitions and desire to build a squad capable of competing and Spurs’s plans to continue meeting his demands will feature in the discussions.

Conte has implored the club on a number of occasions to try and be more ambitious in the transfer market 

Spurs resume their season on Boxing Day at Brentford and Conte’s squad has begun to be bolstered again by players who featured in the World Cup.

Those whose campaigns lasted only as long as the group stage returned to training on Monday with the comebacks of the players who have also exited the competition staggered based on their involvement until quarter-finalists Harry Kane, Eric Dier and Richarlison are reintegrated next week.

Semi-finalists Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic and Christan Romero’s return dates have yet to be determined with their countries still involved in Qatar.
