A tourist is in a critical condition with head injuries after a late-night brawl in far north Queensland.

Police say the 28-year-old man had just walked out of an Innisfail pub with a mate when he became involved in a fight with a large group of people early on Friday morning.

The man was allegedly struck by another man from the group, causing him to fall and hit his head on concrete.

Police say the 28-year-old man had just walked out of an Innisfail pub with a mate when he became involved in a fight with a large group of people early on Friday morning (pictured, Cairns Hospital where the patient was taken)

It’s understood the tourist jumped back up and continued to fight until police arrived.

He was taken to the Innisfail watchhouse where officers noticed he was becoming unwell.

Paramedics then took the man to Innisfail Hospital suffering from head injuries.

He was transferred to Cairns Hospital where he remains in intensive care, police said on Saturday.

Police arrested and charged a 35-year-old Innisfail man with grievous bodily harm and public nuisance.

He is due to appear in Innisfail Magistrates Court on Monday.
