Tourist dies after plunging from cliff face near Sydney’s Bronte Beach

A tourist has died after falling seven metres from a cliff near Sydney’s popular Bronte Beach.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene on Tuesday afternoon after reports a person had gone over the rock face at about 2.30pm.

A number of emergency workers desperately fought to save the man’s life but a New South Wales Police spokeswoman confirmed he died at the scene.

Stephen Leahy, CEO of Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, said the man had fallen about seven metres and on to a rock ledge above the water.

‘Police, ambulance on scene and treating patient for potential severe injuries,’ Mr Leahy tweeted earlier. 

He said it was not safe to winch the person to safety and that the rescue helicopter had returned to base.

Paramedics continued to treat the patient at the scene until he passed away during the rescue process.

Initially, a New South Wales police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia the patient’s condition was stable.
