TRACY AUSTIN Overnight sensation Emma Raducanu is an earthquake in tennis

TRACY AUSTIN: Overnight sensation Emma Raducanu is an earthquake in tennis… she’s an incredible competitor and looks here to STAY after contunuing her dream Wimbledon run

My rise in tennis was a small step gradually up, but this is going to be overnight. I had never heard of Emma Raducanu before this week, now everyone will know who she is.

This is an earthquake in tennis that someone so young… and she wasn’t gifted this match, she took it. Thirty winners, I think she has a great head on her shoulders, she seems very grounded.

She seems like an incredible competitor. She’s able to rebound immediately. She’s a smart court player, has the defence, the offence, the even-keeled temperament.

Emma Raducanu’s dream debut run at Wimbledon continued with victory over Sorana Cirstea

Sorana Cirstea has had a fabulous spring, she beat Victoria Azarenka and was on a high too. Raducanu seems to play with that right level of engagement, clarity of how she wants to play. Even that last game, it was on her third match point and she stayed calm. She is still going to be ranked outside the top 200, it is not going to be easy after this big high, but she has the skillset.

You’re not getting carried away. We talked about how wide open the women’s field is and now it is even more wide open than we thought.

Ajla Tomljanovic hasn’t been this deep in a slam so she is going to be nervous. If she can beat Cirstea, she can beat Tomljanovic.

It’s extraordinary to see someone who’s not been home schooled from a young age be such a phenomenon, she’s a prodigy. What a star!

Tracy Austin was talking on the BBC.
