The man was fined $330 and had four demerit points deducted from his driver’s licence.

A Highway Patrol Command spokesman told The Daily Telegraph it was always a dangerous endeavour to use a mobile phone while driving.

‘Driving is a complex task,’ the spokesman said.

‘Anything that takes your mind or eyes off the road, or your hands off the wheel, not only compromises your safety, but that of everyone else on the road.’

He said using a phone while driving not only distracts a driver but also limits their reaction time which in turn creates a dangerous situation for all drivers on the road.

The NSW Police are currently undertaking a road blitz named Operation Stay Alert which will continue until Monday, June 11.
