Tradie’s heroic act stuns after car barrels through an intersection and crashes into another vehicle

Footage has captured the moment a tradie chased down a driver after they crashed into another car and allegedly tried to flee the scene.

The incident unfolded at the intersection of Hellawell and Beaudesert roads between Acacia Ridge and Sunnybank Hills in Brisbane’s south on Monday morning.

The footage, which was shared by Dashcam Owners Australia, showed a blue Mazda hatchback driving through the intersection.

The traffic lights were red for a full 17 seconds before the Blue Mazda barreled into traffic, colliding with a white Toyota hatchback.

The Toyota hatchback did a 360-degree spin before smashing into a red Mazda SUV in the adjacent lane.

All three cars came to a complete stop in the middle of the intersection as tradies rushed to the aid of the driver behind the wheel of the Toyota.

The driver of the blue Mazda was seen getting out of his car and walking off to the side of the road.

A tradie wearing a high-vis vest spotted the driver walking away from the scene of the crash and chased him down.

The footage showed the tradie reach out and grab the driver before he raised his fist as other bystanders quickly intervened to stop him from leaving the area.

Social media users praised the tradie for acting quickly and detaining the driver of the blue Mazda.

‘Love how the guy bolts from the other side of the road and confronts the guy that caused the accident,’ one person commented.

‘Old mate in yellow shirt appears from bottom right and makes a “b” line for the driver of the Mazda, and duly takes him to the ground,’ a second person wrote.

‘God love the tradie who spotted old mate casually walking away … and crash tackled him,’ a third chimes.

A fourth added: ‘That tradie pinning him down. That’s the type of people who deserve Australian of the year awards. What a bloody legend’.

‘This is cooked it’s a regularly used intersection by my house — it’s always busy could have easily been fatal,’ another person added.

Queensland Police confirmed a 26-year-old Carseldine man was charged following the alleged traffic crash in Sunnybank Hills.

‘It will be alleged at approximately 9.45am a blue Mazda 3 was travelling south on Beaudesert Road when it failed to stop at a red light near Hellawell Road,’ a police spokesperson told news.com.au.

‘It will be further alleged the car then struck two other vehicles, a Mazda CX30 and a Toyota Yaris. The driver of the Mazda 3 was taken into police custody at the scene.’

The man was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving under the influence and is set to face Richlands Magistrates Court on August 6.
