A teenage boy has tragically died after skateboarding down a hill and hitting a pole. 

Paramedics were called to the scene in Townsville at 2.30pm on Saturday where bystanders were already attempting to resuscitate the boy. 

The 16-year-old is understood to have been on holidays from Malaysia with his family and skating with friends in the suburb of North Ward to the north of the city.

‘Early investigations suggest the boy was travelling down a hill and attempted to slow down prior to crashing into a pole,’ Queensland Police said in a statement. 

Police also said the boy was wearing a helmet. 

‘A number of adults and the other children he was with came to his aid,’ the spokesperson said.

Police say they are investigating he circumstances of the crash.
