In a Facebook post last month, he shared a picture of him smiling while climbing Mount Warning in northern New South Wales.

He wrote: ‘Great chemo prep climbing Mt Warning this morning.

‘Two rounds of chemotherapy complete. Round three tomorrow and Tuesday.

‘Experienced some fatigue, nausea and hair loss so far. But staying strong and positive – still training hard and working when I can.’

Mr Wilson posted again at the end of April with a picture of himself in bed in hospital.

He captioned it: ‘Presented at ED this morning due to some nasty abdominal pain. All my bloods etc were ok. Doc seems to think the inflammation is another side effect of the chemotherapy.

‘It’s been a pretty frustrating week due to the uncomfortable pain and bloating. I haven’t been able to train at all and I’m going stir crazy sitting all day. Although I am getting through a lot of TV shows.’

He said: ‘We should exercise and eat well to decrease the chances of chronic disease BUT sometimes we just get unlucky (the wise words of my oncologist).

‘I’m in the best physical and emotional state for the war – I certainly won’t lose!’

Fellow fitness fanatic Helen Kontogiannis wrote: ‘The world lost an exceptional man this week.

‘The Metafit community around the globe lost a passionate leader and educator and I, along with many many others, lost a caring friend.

‘You were one of the best humans I’ve ever known Dan, and I’m so grateful I got to tell you that before you left this earth.’
