Tragic accident in Parwan, Melbourne: Dad dies, mother and two children rushed to hospital

A dad has been killed while his two children and partner were rushed to hospital with serious injuries after two cars collided in Melbourne’s west.

The family — a man, woman and their two children — were in a Ford travelling on Nerowie Rd in Parwan after after 10am Sunday when it collided with a Jeep.

The man died at the scene, despite frantic efforts from witnesses and emergency responders to revive him.

His partner in the passenger front seat was rushed to Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A teenage boy in the back seat was airlifted to The Royal Children’s Hospital.

A young girl who was also in the back seat was taken to hospital with head injuries.

Harrowing footage from the scene shows the smashed Ford on its side with the road strewn with debris from the wreckage.

Police allege the Jeep driver is believed to have been travelling on the wrong side of the road when it ploughed into the family’s  Ford.

The Jeep driver was arrested at the scene and is assisting detectives with their inquiries.

No charges have yet been laid as detectives continue their investigations.

‘The circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and the investigation is ongoing,’ a police statement read.

The fatal crash takes Victoria’s 2023 road toll to 215 lives lost, 42 more than this time last year.
